Raj Kapoor, the executive producer and showrunner of the 2025 Grammys, expressed his dissatisfaction with Kanye West and Bianca Censori’s red carpet appearance, stating that their attire did not align with the awards show’s “standards.”
Kapoor emphasized that while the Grammys encourage an “artistic black-tie” dress code, the interpretation of this guideline varies within the music industry.
Kapoor clarified that different standards apply to attendees based on their involvement in the show.
West, 47, was nominated for Best Rap Song (“Carnival”) but did not perform, which placed him in a different category regarding wardrobe expectations.
“Obviously, there is a dress code for anybody actually performing on the show that we have to adhere to standards and practices,” Kapoor told People. “But as far as people attending and nominees attending, that would be something the [Recording] Academy would have to answer.”
While the Recording Academy has not publicly detailed its wardrobe rules, CBS issued a “wardrobe advisory” in 2013, obtained by Deadline, which stated that “buttocks and female breasts” should be “adequately covered” during the event. The advisory also requested that “all talent appearing on camera” — including “audience members” — “please adhere to Network policy concerning wardrobe.”
The guidelines specifically asked guests to avoid “sheer” or “see-through” clothing that “could possibly expose female breast nipples” and the exposure of “bare fleshy under curves of the buttock and buttock crack.” Additionally, the “genital region is adequately covered so that there is no visible ‘puffy’ bare skin exposure.”
Censori’s ‘outfit,’ however, defied all these rules. The 30-year-old former Head of Architechture at Yeezy, West’s apparel company, donned a completely see-through minidress made of sheer stockings, leaving nothing to the imagination.
She opted to forgo undergarments, and while she initially arrived in a black fur coat, she removed it shortly after stepping onto the red carpet.
According to a lip reader, West allegedly instructed her to start “making a scene,” saying, “Drop it behind you and then turn, I got you.” Censori reportedly replied, “All right, let’s go.”
The couple’s red carpet appearance was reportedly an attempt to recreate the cover of West’s Vultures 1 album, which features Censori topless, wearing only thigh-high boots and a small piece of fabric on her backside.
However, after their red carpet moment, the couple left the event and did not attend the awards ceremony, instead celebrating at a private afterparty.
While many have expressed concern for Censori, a source told Us Weekly that the model “likes the attention.” The insider added, “Good or bad, they love it. They love the buzz.”
Despite this, a body language expert later claimed that Censori displayed signs of “fear” and “nervousness” before “baring it all” on the red carpet.
