Netflix concerned as ratings for Meghan Markle’s new show drop, raising doubts about season two

Meghan Markle’s Netflix series With Love, Meghan receives poor reviews, leading to concerns over contract renewal.

Meghan Markle’s Netflix series With Love, Meghan has faced widespread criticism and disappointing reviews, leading to concerns among the streaming giant’s executives.

Just six days after its release, the show has already fallen out of the top ten most-watched titles in major markets like the US and UK. According to Daily Mail, a Netflix insider spoke with them, admitting that the series has not been the “runaway success” they hoped for and that the company is concerned about its reception, especially with their significant investment in Meghan’s brand, which will soon be featured in Netflix’s new brick-and-mortar stores.

Despite the show’s poor reception, Meghan celebrated the news that a second season had been filmed back-to-back with the first. However, sources clarified that this does not guarantee a renewal of her Netflix contract, which remains uncertain. The decision to film both seasons at once was a cost-effective strategy that allowed for edits based on audience feedback, making it unclear when and if the contract will be extended.

Critics have largely panned the show, with Variety labeling it a “Montecito ego trip” and other reviews calling it “gormless lifestyle filler.” The show, which has an 11% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, features Meghan hosting friends in her home, discussing topics such as DIY crafts and self-care routines. Many viewers have found her attempts at portraying a lifestyle guru inauthentic, with comedian Christina Pazsitzky criticizing Meghan for appearing “phony” and “inauthentic.”

While Meghan’s show struggles with critical reviews, her lifestyle brand, which will launch in Netflix stores, is a key component of her collaboration with the platform. Despite these setbacks, Netflix has expressed hope that the show will generate more interest over time.
