Israel army to capture additional territory in Gaza, military chief says

The Israeli army will expand its military operations against Hamas in the Gaza Strip and will capture additional territory, Reuters reports.

“We are acting according to a structured plan and moving to the next phase. Hamas will pay the price for its defiance … We will expand our manoeuvre, capture additional territory, clear and destroy the terrorist infrastructure until its defeat,” army chief Eyal Zamir said in Gaza during a field tour.

Israel has said 93 UN aid trucks have entered Gaza, a day after the UN announced it had been cleared to send supplies for the first time since Israel imposed a total blockade on March 2, AFP reports.

COGAT, the Israeli defence ministry body that oversees civil affairs in the Palestinian territories, said that “93 UN trucks carrying humanitarian aid, including flour for bakeries, food for babies, medical equipment, and pharmaceutical drugs were transferred today via the Kerem Shalom Crossing into the Gaza Strip.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the return of a delegation holding Gaza ceasefire talks in Qatar, though a small team will remain in Doha to continue the talks, Reuters reports citing Israeli media.
