HPD officers shot an armed man who waved a gun at passing cars, Police reports.

An armed suspect is in the hospital after being shot by Houston police during a disturbance outside a home on Thursday night, according to officers.

The Houston Police Department informed Eyewitness News that they received reports of a man waving a handgun in traffic.

When officers arrived at the 2100 block of Cavalcade Street, the suspect walked away despite being instructed to stop. Investigators said he displayed a pistol, prompting four officers to fire, striking him once.

“We’re unsure if he fired the weapon. Our officers shot at him,” HPD Chief Noe Diaz stated.

The suspect fled into a wooded area but was later found with the gun and taken to the hospital.

No officers were injured, and an investigation is ongoing. Diaz noted there were prior reports of the suspect firing his weapon near a home further down the street, but this has not been verified. It remains unclear if the suspect lives in the area.
