HPD officer suspended after being charged with allegedly assaulting a family member, police report

A Houston police officer is now behind bars after allegedly assaulting a family member on Monday, investigators say. The Houston Police Department announced the arrest of 24-year-old Jonathan Torres on X (formerly known as Twitter) on October 3, 2024.

According to authorities, Torres was relieved of duty on Tuesday as an investigation into the incident began.
Charging documents reveal that the incident occurred on Monday, when Torres allegedly slammed a laptop onto the hand of a woman he was dating. He then reportedly used a handcuff to pull her to the ground by her wrist.
Torres has been charged with assault of a family member and unlawful restraint and is currently being held at the Harris County Jail.
The department noted that Torres had been assigned to HPD’s Midwest Patrol Division in August 2024.
