A Harris County detention officer was arrested at work on Wednesday night following accusations of sexually assaulting a co-worker.
Jeleel Williams, 26, faces charges of sexual assault and was taken into custody at the jail located at 701 San Jacinto in downtown Houston around 10 p.m. After his arrest, deputies processed him into the jail as an inmate across the street.
Court records reveal that the alleged assault occurred following the swearing-in of 56 new detention officers in July. After the ceremony, a sergeant organized a celebratory outing for the group.
In August, the 36-year-old victim reported to investigators that after consuming alcohol, Williams offered to drive her home, where she alleged that he sexually assaulted her.
Williams spent most of Thursday in jail before being released on a $50,000 bond.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office has not commented on Williams’ employment status. He currently has no attorney of record and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday morning.
