Former Alabama linebacker and five-star recruit Keanu Koht announced his decision to enter the NCAA transfer portal on Tuesday.
Koht, who joined the Crimson Tide in 2021, has primarily served as a reserve linebacker, appearing in 14 games across four seasons and recording nine total tackles, three tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, and one fumble recovery.
In a statement, Koht expressed gratitude for his time at Alabama, thanking his coaches, teammates, and supporters for the lessons and experiences gained. He explained that his decision to leave was driven by personal growth and the need for a new chapter in his career. Koht has two years of NCAA eligibility remaining.
Before entering the transfer portal, Koht was removed from the team by head coach Kalen DeBoer for unspecified reasons.
Social media allegations claim that Koht sent a direct message to Coach DeBoer’s oldest daughter, asking if she “wanted this horse,” followed by an unsolicited picture. Alabama and Koht have not addressed these claims, and the official reason for his suspension remains undisclosed.
Koht’s departure makes him the second Alabama player to enter the transfer portal this season, following defensive lineman Jeheim Oatis last month. The controversy surrounding his suspension adds uncertainty to his transfer, as speculation continues within the Alabama football community.
