Comcast, along with its NBCUniversal subsidiary, and Netflix have each pledged $10 million to aid Los Angeles wildfire disaster relief and recovery efforts, addressing the catastrophic impact on the region.
The wildfires have claimed 24 lives, displaced over 150,000 people, and destroyed or damaged more than 12,000 structures.
“We extend our deep appreciation to the first responders for their tireless and courageous efforts,” said Comcast CEO Brian Roberts. The company is also providing financial support, health and welfare benefits, and temporary housing assistance to employees affected by the disaster. Through the Comcast NBCUniversal Employee Disaster Assistance Fund, grants and double matching employee charitable contributions will help those in need.
Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos, in a letter to employees, shared that the company’s $10 million donation will be allocated among the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, California Community Fund Wildfire Recovery Fund, World Central Kitchen, Motion Picture and Television Fund, and the Entertainment Community Fund. Netflix is also offering displaced employees temporary housing and double matching their charitable contributions.
Sarandos emphasized the resilience of Los Angeles in his letter, stating, “For those of us lucky enough to call this city home, Los Angeles is far more than palm trees and red carpets; it’s a family. And in times of crisis, Angelenos come together to rebuild.”
These pledges from Comcast and Netflix underscore the critical need for corporate and community efforts to support those impacted by the devastating wildfires and highlight the spirit of collaboration in overcoming this crisis.
