Singer Firerose has opened up about her brief and troubled marriage to country music star Billy Ray Cyrus, which lasted only eight months.
In an interview with Stellar magazine, Firerose reflected on their whirlwind romance that began in 2020, following their reconnection during the pandemic. She expressed regret about their relationship, saying, “If I could go back in time, I’d tell my 22-year-old self to run the moment I met him,” referencing their first encounter on the set of Hannah Montana in 2010.
Firerose shared how the marriage, which took place in October 2023, quickly turned into a period of emotional isolation and manipulation. She described how Cyrus gradually distanced her from her friends and family, using fear tactics. “He’d say things like, ‘You’re a Cyrus now. You can’t go to church or public places—people will follow you home and kill you.’” Despite feeling devastated, Firerose said she justified his behavior as protective.
The singer also noted that Cyrus blamed her for his personal and professional failures, which contributed to the emotional strain in their marriage. Now free from the relationship, Firerose aims to raise awareness of the toxic dynamics she experienced, noting that situations like hers are more common than people realize. Cyrus has yet to respond to the allegations.
