Glen Powell addresses rumors about replacing Tom Cruise in ‘Mission: Impossible’ franchise

Glen Powell quashes rumors about taking over Tom Cruise’s 'Mission: Impossible' role.

Glen Powell recently addressed speculation about replacing Tom Cruise in the iconic Mission: Impossible franchise. Rumors emerged earlier this week in a report by The InSneider, which claimed Cruise, known for his daring stunts and longstanding role as Ethan Hunt, wanted Powell to succeed him in the series. Powell, currently known for roles in Top Gun: Maverick and Hit Man, commented on the rumors during an interview on The Pat McAfee Show on November 12.

When show host and ESPN commentator Pat McAfee congratulated him on the possibility of taking on the lead in Mission: Impossible, Powell dismissed the idea, humorously noting, “My mom would never let me do that.” The actor continued by playfully referring to the franchise as “the worst gig in town,” alluding to the physically demanding stunts Cruise famously performs himself, which have become a signature of the franchise.

Powell’s response to the speculation highlights the challenge and risk associated with the role. Cruise’s commitment to performing his own stunts has set a high standard within the franchise, with recent installments showcasing his feats like scaling skyscrapers and piloting helicopters. Despite Powell’s involvement in high-action projects, he appeared to shy away from the intense physical demands of Mission: Impossible, adding a lighthearted perspective to the rumors.

The Mission: Impossible franchise, which has become one of the most successful action series globally, continues to captivate fans with every new installment. While fans may speculate on who might eventually replace Cruise, Powell’s recent remarks suggest he may not be ready to fill the role just yet.
