Following Lil Durk’s arrest for an alleged murder-for-hire plot targeting Quando Rondo, a viral rumor surfaced on TikTok, suggesting that the Chicago rapper might face the electric chair.
Various TikTok users, including @indecisivequan and @freedurkio._, contributed to this speculation. The former shared a brief video with the text: “Yb in jail, Thug in jail, Durk getting the electric chair, this Rod Wave last album. Drake getting old, who tf we going to listen to now?”
Similarly, the latter posted a GIF of a boy appearing shocked, captioned: “Me when I found out Durk was finna get on the electric chair.”
In response to these rumors, fans of the OTF founder voiced their concerns in comments on the mentioned TikTok posts.
No official reports confirm that Lil Durk is facing the electric chair, or execution by electrocution.
Importantly, California, where Durk faces his murder-for-hire charge, does not permit capital punishment. This is due to a 2006 federal ruling and a 2019 moratorium on the death penalty issued by Governor Gavin Newsom.
On October 25, Lil Durk, legally known as Devontay Durk Banks, was taken into federal custody in South Florida by U.S. Marshals following an indictment in Los Angeles. Authorities were alerted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection that Durk had booked two international flights, one from Miami to Dubai and another from Fort Lauderdale to Switzerland.
Reportedly, Durk also had a private flight booked from Miami to Italy. However, he was arrested “in the vicinity of the departing airport” about an hour before takeoff, according to official reports. He was then held at Broward County Jail, pending extradition to California to face the murder-for-hire charge related to Quando Rondo.
To provide context, Rondo was ambushed by a group of five male attackers at a Los Angeles gas station in August 2022. Although he and his sister were unharmed, his cousin, Saviay’a Robinson, also known as Lul Pab, was fatally shot.
