2 HPD officers injured after their vehicle crashes into a ditch following a chase in the Greenspoint area, according to police.

Authorities are still searching for a suspect after a police chase ended with a patrol vehicle overturned in a ditch in the Greenspoint area on Houston’s northside.

The two Houston police officers involved sustained injuries but are expected to recover, according to HPD.

The incident occurred near Greenspoint Drive and North Point Drive, just south of the North Beltway and close to the former Greenspoint Mall.

Around 9 p.m. on Sunday, officers observed multiple vehicles driving recklessly in the Greenspoint Mall parking lot, including a white Chevy Suburban that nearly struck two vehicles.

When officers activated their lights and sirens, the Suburban fled, driving the wrong way and running multiple red lights.

At one point, officers tried to stop the vehicle, but the patrol car lost control, struck a concrete barrier and a water main, and flipped into a ditch containing about a foot of standing water.

Officers were heard on radio traffic requesting assistance, saying, “We’re getting them out of the car. We need HFD. We’re in the bayou off of Greenspoint Drive.”

The suspect escaped and remains at large. HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division is urging anyone with information to call (713) 247-4074.

The Greenspoint Mall and the crash site are approximately half a mile apart. The two officers were transported to the hospital and are expected to survive.
