A mother was tragically shot and killed in front of her children in northwest Harris County.
A surveillance camera captured the tragic moment when a woman was shot and killed in front of her two young children at an apartment complex in the Willowbrook area.
According to Houston police, the incident occurred around 8 a.m. on Wednesday at the Willow Green Apartments, near Highway 249 and FM 1960. Authorities believe the woman was shot by someone she knew.
The footage, obtained exclusively by Eyewitness News, shows a man entering the woman’s second-floor apartment. Shortly after the door closes, a man’s voice is heard saying, “Oh really?” The woman responds by saying, “Go ahead” three times, followed by the sound of a gunshot. Eight more shots are heard as the victim screams in pain.
The man is then seen leaving the apartment calmly, just 20 seconds after entering. Eyewitness News has blurred his face pending his identification as a suspect by the police.
Neighbors reported to media that they had seen the man at the victim’s apartment before, with one mentioning that he had been watching her from the parking lot. Two women told Eyewitness News that they were approached by one of the victim’s sons after the shooting.
“We thought they had missed the bus,” one witness recalled. “But the 6-year-old told us, ‘I know, but he shot my mom.'”
Upon hearing this, the women immediately rushed to help. “We asked him to show us the apartment, and when we got there, she was gasping for air,” the witness explained.
The witnesses applied towels to the woman’s wounds and called 911. Neighbors confirmed that two young children were inside the apartment during the shooting, while two others were at school.
“The kids will be traumatized for the rest of their lives because they witnessed it,” one witness said, expressing deep concern for the children’s well-being. “I feel for those kids.”
Neighbors claim the police know who the suspect is, though authorities have not yet released his name.
