According to HPD, a baby girl was in the backseat of her 23-year-old father’s car when he was fatally shot.

An investigation is ongoing after a man was fatally shot and another injured in a southwest Houston shooting on Tuesday afternoon.

Houston police responded to Beechnut Street near the west Beltway but believe the shooting occurred about four blocks further west on Beechnut.

Authorities report that four people, including two men, a woman, and a baby girl, were inside the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Reporters spoke with the family of the deceased victim, who said he worked as a security guard and was a provider for his child. According to the victim’s mother, he was on his way to take professional photos with his baby daughter when the shooting took place.

The victim’s white four-door sedan, left riddled with bullet holes, was found outside a Wells Fargo Bank in southwest Houston.

Police report that the victim managed to drive to the Wells Fargo, where he died at the scene.

Family members say the victim was driving, with a friend in the passenger seat, while the 5-month-old baby and a woman were in the back.

The friend was injured and taken to the hospital, while both the baby and the woman were unharmed.

The woman was questioned by police and later returned to the scene. Family members told media that she shielded the baby as shots were fired at the car.
