An adult and a Lufkin cheerleader were hospitalized following an eight-vehicle crash involving a bus near downtown Houston.

Three high school cheerleaders and one adult were hospitalized after an eight-vehicle accident involving a school bus on US-59 near downtown Houston on Sunday morning.

The bus, carrying over 30 students and several adults from Lufkin ISD, was en route to a cheerleading competition in Rosenberg. The crash occurred just before 11:50 a.m. near the Fannin Street exit, prompting the team to turn back and return to Lufkin.

According to Transtar, the collision affected four lanes of the highway. Houston Police informed media that the bus driver received a citation but did not disclose details, as the Vehicular Crimes Division continues to investigate.

A team parent told media that the three hospitalized students were released by Sunday evening, with Houston police describing their injuries as minor.
