As jurors continue to process the haunting video recorded by one of the teenage victims, they are preparing to hear further testimony on Wednesday in the Delphi murders trial.
Libby German, 14, and Abby Williams, 13, were found dead near a trail in Delphi, Indiana, after being brutally murdered on Feb. 13, 2017. Richard Allen is accused of committing the killings that afternoon.
Three witnesses who were present on the trail the day of the murders testified before the jury.
Railly Voorhies, who was 16 at the time and friends with the girls, recalled seeing a man near Freedom Bridge. She described the “bridge guy” as overdressed for the weather, wearing dark clothes and a running mask. During cross-examination, the defense pointed out inconsistencies between her current description and a previous interview. Voorhies admitted the photo of “Bridge Guy” may have influenced her memory.
Breann Wilber, another witness who was on the bridge that day with Voorhies, testified that she also saw the “bridge guy” and described him as walking with a purpose and giving off “weird vibes.” She said her first thought upon seeing the released photo of “Bridge Guy” was that it matched the man she saw. The defense questioned how her description had changed over the years.
Betsey Blair, a frequent visitor to the Monon High Trail in 2016 and 2017, testified that she saw a man and later two girls on Feb. 13. After seeing the grainy image of “Bridge Guy,” she immediately recognized the man she had seen and reported it to the authorities.
The final witness of the day, Steve Mullin, an investigator for the Carroll County Prosecutor’s Office, testified about video evidence collected in the case.
Richard Allen, a Delphi resident, was arrested in 2022 and has pleaded not guilty to the murders. Though he admitted to being on the trail that day, he denied any involvement in the killings, according to court documents.
The trial will continue on Wednesday.
**’Down the Hill’ Video**
During Tuesday’s session, a 30-second video filmed by Libby German shortly before her death was shown to the jury. The video, which was part of Indiana State Police digital forensic examiner Brian Bunner’s testimony, showed Libby and Abby walking on the Monon High Bridge. At one point, a man was seen walking behind Abby.
In the video, a girl’s voice is heard saying, “There’s no path — the trail ends here, so we have to go down here?” Libby’s mother cried upon hearing the voice in court.
The video, unenhanced and played only once, was a key piece of evidence. Prosecutors explained that Libby began recording at 2:13 p.m. after noticing a man behind them. The man reportedly pulled out a gun and ordered the girls to go “down the hill.” The video stopped soon after.
The girls’ bodies were discovered near the trail the following day.
