Homeowner fatally shoots suspected intruder in northwest Harris County, according to sheriff’s office.

A homeowner fatally shot a man late Tuesday night who was allegedly attempting to break into homes in northwest Harris County, the sheriff’s office reported.

Authorities said the 27-year-old suspect tried to use a shovel to break a window at a home on Woodoak Drive near Gulf Bank Road just before midnight. The homeowner responded by grabbing a gun and shooting the man multiple times.

First responders treated the suspect at the scene and transported him to the hospital, where he later died.

According to the sheriff’s office, the suspect was reportedly seen in the backyards of two to three homes in the area. He was shot while on the front porch of the house in question.

Authorities also revealed that the next-door neighbor had confronted the same suspect in their backyard earlier that night and informed the homeowner prior to the fatal shooting.

Officials told media that the alleged intruder lived within half a mile of the home where he was shot. A grand jury will determine whether any charges will be filed.
