Houston father charged with capital murder in the deaths of his twin infant daughters.

Fernando Vega is facing capital murder charges for allegedly killing his newborn twin daughters, Massail and Mirena. The 6-week-old infants were found dead in October 2023 at the family’s southeast Houston home on Linden Creek Lane.

Prosecutors believe Vega, 22, was the last person to see them alive and have now charged him after more than a year of investigation, confident in their ability to prove the case.

Vega appeared emotionless during his court appearance, where his bond was set at $3 million. The prosecutor, Edward Appelbaum, stated that the injuries were severe and that Vega was the only person present who could have inflicted them. The babies were reported to have died from blunt force trauma, showing signs of contusions, bruising, and malnutrition.

Vega’s defense attorney, Mario Madrid, emphasized that Vega is innocent until proven guilty, and further investigation and evidence review are still ongoing.

The children’s mother, Angelina Calderon, also faces charges of injury to a child, and prosecutors have not ruled out the possibility of upgrading her charges to capital murder.
