Man discovered fatally shot in NW Harris County by family after failing to show up for school pickup, police report.

A tragic incident unfolded Friday afternoon when a woman and her children discovered her husband fatally shot inside their northwest Harris County home, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies from Harris County Precinct #1 Constable’s Office responded to the 12000 block of Mallard Stream Court in the Willow Springs subdivision for a reported medical emergency.

When medical personnel arrived, 37-year-old Jose Torres was pronounced dead. Authorities said his family found him shot, with multiple bullet casings discovered at the scene.

Investigators stated that Torres had been finishing yard work earlier that afternoon and was scheduled to pick up his wife and children from school. When he didn’t show up, the family got a ride home with someone else, only to find him dead.

Officials believe the shooting occurred between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. They said unidentified suspects approached Torres before fleeing the scene. Items were also reported missing from the home.

On Saturday morning, investigators revealed that Torres worked as a dispatcher for the Spring Branch Independent School District Police Department.

Deputies are actively investigating the case and are working to identify potential suspects.
