The Houston Police Department confirmed that two officers shot and killed a man who allegedly opened fire on them early Sunday morning in the Sunnyside area.
Assistant Chief Yasar Bashir stated that around 2:30 a.m., two HPD officers were responding to an unrelated call when they heard gunshots nearby. After handling the initial call, they proceeded to Corksie near Dulcimer to investigate.
Upon arrival, they spotted a car with a broken window and a man nearby. When one officer asked if he had heard gunfire or noticed anything unusual, the man reportedly began shooting at them. Both officers returned fire, striking the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neither officer was injured. Both have been with the department for four years and have been placed on administrative leave, per standard procedure.
In a related discovery, police found a second man, shot dead, a few houses away from the officer-involved shooting. A semi-automatic weapon was recovered at the scene. Investigators are now looking for witnesses and surveillance footage to determine if the two incidents are connected.
The identities of the deceased men have not been released, and it is unclear if either lived in the neighborhood.
