Surveillance footage captures a car veering off the road and crashing into a home in southeast Houston.

Surveillance cameras captured the shocking moment when a car crashed into a southeast Houston home early Sunday morning.

According to the Houston Police Department, the incident took place around 9:30 a.m. at 12206 Palmsprings Drive near Freeton Street. Footage from a neighbor’s doorbell camera shows the car veering off the road, flipping over, and colliding with the house.

For Eloisa Cavanauth, Sunday mornings are usually quiet. At around 9 a.m., she was in her kitchen preparing breakfast when the silence was shattered by a loud bang from the other side of her home.

“My kitchen, where the door leads outside, was on fire,” Cavanauth said. “It turned out to be a car, but at first, I thought it was a bomb.”

Cavanauth said the driver managed to exit the vehicle on his own. Although coherent, she noticed he had a head injury and was bleeding.

“I don’t know his condition; all I know is they rushed him to the hospital, but he was talking,” she said.

Houston police have not yet confirmed whether the driver was under the influence or if he will face charges.

Cavanauth hopes to clean up her home soon but is mostly relieved to be unharmed.

“I’m still in shock, but it will be okay,” she said.

No further information on injuries has been released at this time.
