Authorities are investigating after human remains were discovered Saturday in a northeast Harris County home, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
Deputies responded to a residence in the 13300 block of Villagrove Drive. The sheriff’s office stated that the home had recently been purchased, and the new owner uncovered the remains while cleaning it out.
Officials revealed that the property had been rented previously, and the tenant was in the process of being evicted. The tenant was reportedly seen leaving the house just hours before it caught fire in late August.
Investigators believe the remains have been in the home since the fire. However, they were not found at the time due to extensive debris, and the house was presumed vacant during the arson incident.
Currently, authorities are working to locate the former tenant. Investigators will also need to contact the property’s original owner to assist in the search.
