Former LSU receiver Kyren Lacy dies by suicide during police chase

Kyren Lacy, former LSU wide receiver and NFL hopeful, died by suicide during police pursuit.

Former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy, 24, died by apparent suicide during a police pursuit in Harris County, Texas, late Saturday night, according to a report from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities say the chase ended when Lacy crashed his vehicle. When officers approached, they found him deceased inside the car.

Lacy’s death comes amid ongoing legal issues related to a fatal car accident in Louisiana last December. According to Louisiana State Police, Lacy was driving recklessly—speeding and passing illegally—when another driver swerved to avoid his vehicle, resulting in a head-on crash that killed 78-year-old Herman Hall. Lacy fled the scene and was later charged with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless operation of a vehicle.

Once considered a promising NFL prospect, Lacy had declared for the 2025 NFL Draft just days after the incident. His draft stock plummeted following the charges. Lacy led LSU in touchdown receptions last season with nine, tallying 58 catches for 866 yards. He did not play in LSU’s Texas Bowl win over Baylor on December 31.

LSU released a statement expressing condolences: “We’re saddened to learn of the tragic passing of former LSU football student-athlete Kyren Lacy. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones, as well as his former teammates and coaches impacted by his passing.”

Originally from Thibodaux, Louisiana, Lacy was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. The incident remains under investigation.
