Police have identified the remains of a 51-year-old man following the Deer Park pipeline explosion and the dayslong fire.

The ex-wife of Jonathan McEvoy, whose remains were found in an SUV believed to have crashed into a pipeline valve, suggested he may have had a seizure prior to the accident.

Police confirmed the remains were identified as McEvoy, 51, a resident of Deer Park. Delma McEvoy shared that he left their home on September 16 to go to Walmart but never returned. The explosion occurred near the Walmart on Spencer Highway.

Delma mentioned that he had experienced seizures several months earlier. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and authorities are looking into the cause of the crash.

To identify McEvoy, police utilized radiography comparison, a method that analyzes skeletal structures in both pre- and post-mortem images, particularly useful when only skeletal remains are available.

Details regarding McEvoy’s cause or manner of death have not been released. Authorities noted that his vehicle veered off Spencer Highway, broke through a chain-link gate, and collided with the valve, resulting in a massive fire that forced nearby residents to evacuate. Days later, they returned to find damaged homes and vehicles. Fortunately, there were no other injuries or fatalities reported.
