US representative Marjorie Taylor Greene told a British reporter to “go back to your country” during a heated exchange caught on camera, in a confrontation that has reignited criticism over her rhetoric and conduct.
The Republican representative from Georgia made the remark while responding to questions from Sky News correspondent Martha Kelner, who had asked about the “Signalgate” incident involving the accidental leak of classified information about Houthi attack plans.
Upon learning Kelner was British, Greene responded: “We don’t give a cr-p about your opinion and your reporting. Why don’t you go back to your country?” She continued, “You should care about your own borders… What about all the women that are raped by migrants… do you care?”
The comment drew comparisons to a similar encounter in June 2022, when Greene told Channel 4’s Siobhan Kennedy to “go back to your country” during a press conference on US gun laws following a mass school shooting in Uvalde, Texas.
Greene, 50, has been a polarising figure since entering Congress in 2020. Once marginalised within the Republican Party, she has since gained influence and now chairs the newly formed Subcommittee on Government Efficiency.
Despite previous disciplinary actions — including removal from committee roles over social media posts and public backlash for comparing COVID-19 mask mandates to the Holocaust — Greene remains a vocal ally of President Donald Trump.
She has regularly appeared at campaign events alongside Trump and is known for her provocative political style. Her re-election campaign raised $11.6 million and featured an advertisement of her shooting feral hogs from a helicopter, likening them to Democrats.
In recent months, she has also criticised foreign leaders, including a February 2024 outburst aimed at then-UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron, telling him to “kiss my a–” over his support for Ukraine.
Her boyfriend, conservative reporter Brian Glenn, recently caused diplomatic tension by mocking Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for not wearing a suit during a visit to the White House.
The latest incident has once again drawn attention to Greene’s confrontational style and her growing influence within Republican ranks as the 2024 US election season heats up.
