Trump lashes out at CBS over ‘60 Minutes’ report

President accused CBS of political bias and urged FCC to take punitive action

US President Donald Trump called for punitive action against CBS and its parent company Paramount following a “60 Minutes” broadcast that featured critical segments on Ukraine and Greenland.

Posting on his Truth Social platform, Trump accused the long-running news show of acting as a “dishonest political operative” and demanded the network face “maximum fines and punishment,” including potential revocation of its broadcast licence.

“They are not a ‘News Show,’ but a dishonest Political Operative simply disguised as ‘News,’” the president wrote, urging Federal Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr – a Trump appointee – to intervene.

The episode featured an interview with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who pushed back on Trump’s repeated false claims that Ukraine instigated the ongoing war with Russia and that Zelenskyy is a “dictator.”

“I believe, sadly, Russian narratives are prevailing in the US,” Zelenskyy said during the segment.

Another report focused on Greenland, where local residents criticised Trump’s past remarks suggesting the US should acquire the autonomous Danish territory.

Aqqaluk Lynge, a Greenlandic Inuit leader, called Trump’s previous comments in Congress “ugly” and said they were noted by “all of us” in Greenland.

Trump, who has previously sued CBS over a separate interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris, claimed Sunday’s broadcast was part of an ongoing media campaign to damage him politically.

“CBS is out of control, at levels never seen before, and they should pay a big price for this,” he wrote.

The White House has not responded to requests for clarification on whether the administration intends to formally pursue penalties through the FCC.
