35 killed as driver targets crowd in rage over divorce settlement in China

Police arrested 62-year-old man, who tried to flee but fell into a coma from self-inflicted injuries after the attack

At least 35 people were killed and many injured when a man reportedly drove into a crowd outside a sports center in Zhuhai, Guangdong province, China.

According to Daily Mail, the attack took place Monday night, targeting people exercising around the facility.

Police arrested the 62-year-old suspect, identified as Fan, who allegedly acted in anger over a divorce property settlement. Fan attempted to flee but fell into a coma from self-inflicted injuries.

Video footage on social media showed people lying on the ground as bystanders attended to the injured. Witnesses reported that the car sped in loops around the track, hitting people from all directions.

Many victims were middle-aged or elderly, and local hospitals received multiple casualties, although precise figures were not disclosed.

Chinese social media censored the incident as the Zhuhai Airshow was underway. Only limited information and heavily filtered posts appeared on platforms like Weibo, as authorities worked to control public discourse.

The sports centre, which typically draws hundreds for fitness activities, announced its temporary closure following the tragedy.
