Ten people have died and dozens of others hospitalised after “sudden strong winds” capsised four tourist boats in southwestern China.
According to Reuters, the state media reported that four tourists carrying 84 people plunged into a river on Sunday, May 4, 2025, in Guizhou province.
The last missing person was found around noon on Monday, May 5, 2025, but unfortunately showed no vital signs, bringing the death toll to ten.
The Xinhua News Agency said that 74 people were rescued timely after the incident, and 70 of them were treated in the hospital for the “non-life-threatening conditions.”

Around 500 personnel, including police officers, firefighters and medical workers, were sent to deal with the accident as per Chinese President Xi Jinping’s instructions to provincial authorities to “do everything possible.”
He also urged the authorities to enhance safety measures at tourist destinations and public venues to deal with the growing number of incidents.
Notably, the incident came just two months after a boating accident in the central Chinese province of Hunan, in which 11 people died after a passenger vessel collided with an industrial ship.
Meanwhile, in another incident over the weekend in the eastern city of Suzhou, a sightseeing helicopter crashed in a newly opened park, killing one and injuring four on board.
