An Israeli airstrike on a building in central Beirut on Sunday killed Hezbollah’s media relations chief, Mohammad Afif, according to two Lebanese security sources cited by Reuters.
The Iran-backed group has not confirmed the incident.
Israel has rarely targeted senior Hezbollah figures without direct military roles, with most strikes focused on Beirut’s southern suburbs, a Hezbollah stronghold.
Later on Sunday, a separate strike targeted Mar Elias Street, another central Beirut area, hitting a vehicle, as reported by Hezbollah’s Al-Manar TV. The Lebanese health ministry confirmed at least two fatalities in that attack.
The Israeli military declined to comment when questioned by Reuters about the strike that killed Afif. Additionally, an Israeli military spokesperson’s account on the social media platform X did not issue an evacuation warning before the strike.
